Photography Thumb Rules
- 1. You will stand a much better chance of shooting open views successfully if you plan to do it early or late in the day. At these times, the sun is at a low angle revealing stronger textures and there is less likelihood of atmospheric haze.
- 2. It's best to avoid placing the horizon in the centre of the image. The "rules" of composition suggest it should be along a line which divides the image into thirds but in practice it's best to simply allow it to fall where it creates a good balance between sky and foreground.
- 3. When shooting subjects close to the camera it's best to use a small aperture as depth of field decreases quite considerably when the camera is focused at close distances.
